Top Places To Eat in Philly

Philly is such a unique city with amazing history and the best tasting food. If you are planning a weekend trip to Philly or live close by,  here is a guide to check out some of the best places to eat in the city!

  1. Bud and Marylins

This American-styled cozy retro resturant,  is on the corner of 1234 Locust St. This is one of me and my boyfriend’s favorite places to go!  Every time I’ve been it is not only packed but the vibe is awesome. The service is excellent and the food never disappoints.

Here are some of my favorite dishes and drinks:

Drinks:

Frose Slush– “french rosé wine, vodka, citrus, strawberry-tarragon syrup” *If you love rosé and sulrpees from 7- Eleven you have to get this drink!

Moscow Mule– “Tito’s vodka, lime, ginger beer” *This is a classic drink that Bud and Marylins nails!

Regal Beagle-“gin, aperol, elderflower, lemon”

 

Appetizers:

Crispy Cheese Curds– “Ellsworth Co-op cheddar, smoked guajillo chili salsa, and charred scallion ranch” * honestly I can eat this dish for every meal it is so good and I order it every time I go!

Falafel Crusted Cauliflower-“cucumber raita, Serrano chili, cilantro, mint, olive oil, toasted sesame seed, lemon”

 

Mains:

Heirloom Tomato Salad– “charred corn, scallion hushpuppies, gem lettuce, basil, hickory smoked Tennessee ham, buttermilk-chive dressing”. *I order it with out the ham because I do not eat meat 🙂

Seared Sea Scallops- “pancetta, corn, zucchini & shellbean succotash, cornmeal cakes, heirloom tomato vinaigrette”

Sides:

Mashed Potatoes– herbed butter & chives                                                                        *they are the creamiest mashed potatoes I have ever had

2. Oyster House

If you love fresh seafood and killer Bloody Mary’s you must go to Oyster House. Located on 15th and Sansom Oyster House’s seafood is so fresh its from the morning of. Every day they get fresh fish from all over the east coast. When you go defiantly sit at the bar, you get a front row look at the fish and how they prepare the dishes!

Here are some of my favorite dishes and drinks:

Drinks:

Bloody Cesar– “vodka, oyster house Bloody Mary mix, clam juice” *Inspired by the sea this Bloody Mary with the clam juice adds a hint of ocean to your drink! 

 

Appetizers:

Shrimp Cocktail– “wild colossal shrimp” *freshest shrimp I have ever had! 

Sauteed Mussels– “long hot sofrito, bok choy”

 

Raw Bar Samplers:

The Sansom– “6 oysters, 6 clams, 4 shrimp, 1/2 chilled lobster” *this is a great dish to share!

 

Main:

Seared Scallop– “potato leek soup, pancetta, arugula, fried shallots”

Pan Sired Striped Bass– “fried plantains, broccoli, spicy tamarind sauce”

Sauteed Flounder– “red pepper hummus, sweet & sour eggplant”

3. El Vez

Hands down the best Mexican resturant in Philly is El Vez. Located on 121 S. 13th Street, from the pitcher margaritas to the mouth watering nachos this place is delicious. The only downside is the long wait if you don’t have a reservation because this place is always poppin’

Here are some of my favorite dishes and drinks:

Drinks:

El Vez Margarita– “sauza silver, orange nectar, fresh lime juice”

All Margaritas are made with hand-squeezed lime juice and are offered by the Glass or Pitcher

Appetizers:

Nacho Mamma– “queso mixto, black beans, salsa ranchera, sour cream, pickled red onion & jalapeño” *it is the perfect mix for nachos!

Mains:

Crispy Mahi-Mahi Tacos– “red cabbage, avocado, chipotle pepper remoulade”

Shrimp Tacos “avocado, cotija cheese, salsa de arbol”

4. Hip City Veg

Whether your vegan or not, you can not tell the difference with Hip City Veg’s good tasting menu. If your looking for a quick bite to eat defiantly check this place out! Hip City Veg has three locations in Philly: 214 S 40th St, North American Building, 121 S Broad St, and 127 S 18th St.

Here are some of my favorite dishes:

Mains:

Ziggy Burger– “Classic with organic smoked tempeh & special sauce”

Buffalo Bella– “Crispy portabella, celery slaw, tomato, & buffalo sauce”

Chipotle Fajita Wrap– “Blackened chick’n, onion, pepper, tortilla, cabbage, pico de gallo, avocado, & chipotle crema”

Chopped Med Salad– “artichokes, roasted red peppers, olives, garbanzos, marinated tofu, greens & basil dressing”

Sides:

Sweet Potato Fries– “With cilantro black bean dip or sriracha aioli” *choose the sriracha aioli! 

Lil’ Golden Nugs– “Made with organic grains & served with sweet potato fries”

Desserts:

5. Green Eggs Café

Green Eggs Café is a great place to satisfy those morning munchies. If you looking for quality and quantity in your breakfast look no further. Everything on the menu is delicious, from the Fried Oreo French Toast Bites to the Guacamole and Pepper Benedict. One of the things I love about this place is the variety on the menu and carefulness of dietary needs. The only downside with Green Eggs Café is it is cash only. Green Eggs Café has 5 locations in Philly: 212 S 13th St, 1306 Dickinson St, 719 N 2nd St, 2800 W Girard Ave, and 2327 Gaul St.

6. Morimoto

With a fresh take on Asian cuisine Morimoto’s 5 star menu has unique and fresh flavors. Located on 723 Chestnut Street this resturant is hard to spot but hard to forget. Once you walk in the door you are immediately shocked with the interior design. The combination of Morimoto’s renowned menu and chic interior will leave you with one of your more memorable sushi experiences.

Yellowtail Tartare– “caviar and fresh wasabi”

Diver Scallop– “citrus vinaigrette, shiso, nashi”

Mains:

Black Cod– “miso su miso mustard”

7. Sabrina’s Café

Another favorite breakfast place of mine is Sabrina’s Café. From Stuffed Challah French Toast to the loaded Bagel with Lox, Sabrina’s Café is a local Philly option when it comes to breakfast! Sabrina’s Café in University City gives you college vibes with its ivy league style. It takes your back with the upstairs pool table and old leather couches. Sabrina’s Café has 3 locations in Philly: 910 Christian Street, 1804 Callowhill Street, and 227 N 34th St.

Here are some of my favorite dishes:

Mains:

Tofu Scramble– “Spiced tofu, sauteed onions, bell peppers, spinach, mushrooms, garlic and shallots”

Bagel and Lox– “Open-faced bagel, whipped cream cheese, Nova lox, sliced tomato and cucumber, diced red onions and capers”

Mediterranean Omelet– “Grilled eggplant, roasted peppers, and bliss potatoes, with crumbled feta”

8. Bakeshop on 20th

This small local bakery on 269 South 20th Street is popular for their baked goods such as Babka Buns and Coffee Cake Muffin. The babka is so popular they also sell out within a few hours of opening! Not only do they make sweets but there breakfast sandwiches are also tasty!

Here are some of my favorite dishes and baked goods:

Sandwiches:

Smoked Salmon Special– “Hand-sliced salmon, cream cheese, tomato, cucumber, red onions, and capers”

Avocado Toast Special– “Avocado, tomato, feta, sriracho, and a soft fried egg on our multi-grain bread”

Smoked Salmon Avocado Toast– “Hand-sliced salmon over avocado topped with fresh cucumber salad and drizzled w/horseradish dressing on multigrain toast”

Sweets:

Babka Buns/ or Babka Loaf- “Chocolate Cinnamon, Seasonal Fruit with Cheese” *tip ask for a side of cream cheese and add to every bite for an amazing combination!

9. Schmear It

Schmear It is a small but mighty bagel shop in Philly. With their unique menu, Smear it makes your ordinary bagel turn into something extraordinary. Smear has two locations: 36th & Market and 990 Spring Garden.

Here are some of my favorite bagels:

Bagels:

Loxsmith– “cream cheese, lox, scallions, tomatoes, cucumbers”

Penn– “the “classic” cream cheese and chopped lox”

Stuffed French Toast– “cream cheese, strawberries, bananas, walnuts, cinnamon, maple syrup” *no walnuts I’m allergic and I get this on a French Toast Bagel!

S’mores– cream cheese, marshmallow fluff, graham crackers, chocolate chips *I get this on a chocolate chip bagel!

Greek– “spinach, onions, tomatoes, olives, feta”

10. Franklin Fountain

Franklin Fountain is the creamiest ice cream I have ever had. Located on a corner near Penn’s Landing, Franklin Fountain takes you back to the 1930’s, with their soda pop collection and vintage signage. It makes sense why there is always a line out the door during the warm seasons in Philly, they offer a variety of flavors! Open all year round Franklin Fountain is located on 116 Market St. in one of the coolest parts of Philly.

11. White Dog Café

Located on 3420 Sansom Street, White Dog Café offers American classic dishes with a twist. From their drinks, to appetizers, to mains White Dog Café is a place you’ll want to keep coming back to.
